Strong-hybrid cars you can buy in 2023 under Rs 25 lakh: Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara to Toyota Innova Hycross
2022 saw the introduction of a range of brand-new strong-hybrid cars, bringing the price of such vehicles to as low as it has ever been. If planning to purchase a new car in 2023, with a budget of about Rs 25 lakh, we suggest you to take a look at these 4 new hybrid cars that you might want to consider –
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder not only marked the company’s entry into the mid-size SUV segment, but is also currently the most affordable strong-hybrid car in India. Pricing for the Hyryder hybrid starts from just Rs 15.11 lakh, going all the way up to Rs 18.99 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).

Powering the Toyota Hyryder hybrid is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that works along with an electric motor to produce 116 PS combined, sent to the front wheels through an e-CVT gearbox. Toyota claims that the Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid returns a mileage of 27.97 kmpl, which makes it the most fuel efficient car currently available in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara hybrid
Launched right after the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is based on the same platform as the Toyota SUV, and also shares all its mechanical bits with the car. That said, the Grand Vitara also makes use of the same 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine, returning a claimed mileage of 27.97 kmpl – thereby making it tie with Toyota Hyryder as the most fuel efficient car in India.

Retailed through Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa channel, the Grand Vitara hybrid can be had from Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. It comes equipped with features like a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected-car tech, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, a heads-up display, an EV mode, and so on.
Honda City hybrid
The Honda City e:HEV, better known as City hybrid was launched as India’s first mass-market strong-hybrid car earlier this year. The City e:HEV is also currently the only sedan in its segment to be offered with hybrid tech. Available in a single fully-loaded variant, the City hybrid is currently priced at Rs 19.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

Honda offers the City e:HEV with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is combined with dual electric motors, producing 126 PS of power and 253 Nm of torque. Honda claims that the City Hybrid has a fuel efficiency figure of 26.5 kmpl.
Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid
The Toyota Innova Hycross is the latest hybrid car to be launched in the Indian market. Available with a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid engine producing 186 PS power and 206 Nm torque, the Innova Hycross is the only mass-market three-row car in India to be offered with a strong-hybrid powertrain.
New Toyota Innova Hycross Review: Acceleration of a Polo GT, fuel-efficiency of Alto!
The Toyota Innova Hycross is claimed to return a mileage of 21.1 kmpl, offering an impressive range of 1097 km on a full petrol tank. Moreover, Toyota also says that the Innova Hycross can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 9.5 seconds. Under Rs 25 lakh, you can only opt for the VX variant of the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid, with either a 7-seat (Rs 24.01 lakh) setup or an 8-seat (Rs 24.06 lakh) layout.
