2025 Lucid Air Review, Pricing, and Specs

2025 Lucid Air Review, Pricing, and Specs

Overview

Goodbye range anxiety, the 2025 Lucid Air is rated for up to 512 miles of driving per charge and has a pleasant interior that will make that long trip a comfortable one. While it may not be as outright luxurious as the BMW i7, the Lucid’s overall performance is better both as an EV and as a sports sedan. Although the high-end Grand Touring and performance-oriented Sapphire trims wow with their big horsepower ratings and fancier amenities, the entry-level Pure and mid-range Touring trims are nearly as impressive and don’t require six-figure outlays. All models come with impressive tech features, including the expected driver assists and infotainment goodies, but Lucid’s real engineering marvels reside beneath the surface. The company’s batteries, for example, feature a novel modular design, and its electric motors are smaller and lighter than those used in rival EVs but still pack plenty of power. If you’ve put your EV buying plans on hold out of concern for range, the Lucid Air may be compelling enough to convince you to pull the trigger on an electric car. So impressive is its performance and features, it landed a spot on both our 2025 10Best and 2025 Editors’ Choice lists.

What’s New for 2025?

Some changes are in store for the 2025 Air, but only under the skin. The base Pure model’s battery capacity has been reduced from 88.0-kWh to 84.0-kWh, but its driving range estimate improves by 1 mile to 420 miles per charge. Lucid claims this makes the Air Pure the most energy-efficient vehicle available, earning a 146 MPGe rating from the EPA. All models now come with the same climate control heat pump that’s found in the top-spec Sapphire performance model. The Air’s infotainment system has been beefed up with new control hardware with greater processing power. Driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree exterior camera system are now standard across the board and the Grand Touring model now comes with a better stereo system called Surreal Sound Pro. All models now come with a complimentary scheduled maintenance plan that covers two years or 24,000 miles.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

We’d steer toward the Pure model. It offers a respectable 430 horsepower and 420 miles of estimated driving range, yet it costs significantly less than the upper Grand Touring and Sapphire trims. The Pure also comes with 12-way power-adjustable heated front seats, plenty of driver-assistance features, and a large touchscreen.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

The entry-level Air Pure features a single electric motor driving the rear wheels and produces 430 horsepower. Other models have dual electric motors that provide all-wheel drive and a variety of horsepower ratings: The Touring model generates 620 horses, and the Grand Touring makes 1050. The new top dog is the 1234-hp Lucid Air Sapphire, which has three electric motors. The additional motor is mounted at the rear and provides insane acceleration performance to compete with the Tesla Model S Plaid. The Pure and Touring models’ power deficit is more noticeable on the way to 130 mph, which the Touring managed to dispatch in 12.0 seconds versus the Grand Touring which did it in 10.3. Despite riding on conventional steel coil springs rather than air springs, the sedan felt calm and smooth in the appropriately named Smooth drive mode. Our main complaint was with our example’s 21-inch wheels on low-profile performance tires that produced notable road noise on a section of coarse pavement.

0–60-MPH Times

We’ve sampled the Grand Touring and Grand Touring Performance trims, and the former delivered a brisk 3.0-second 60-mph time, a feat that’s easily repeated by using the car’s launch mode. The lower-priced and lower-powered Touring model ran to 60 mph in an identical 3.0 seconds; the rear-wheel drive Pure did the deed in 4.3 seconds. At our test track, the top-dog Air Sapphire recorded a lightning-quick 2.1-second 60 mph time; on a stickier, prepped surface at Sonoma Raceway, the Sapphire managed an even quicker 1.9-second 60 mph time.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The Air has the longest range of any electric vehicle currently on the market, according to EPA estimates. Grand Touring models feature a 118.0-kWh battery pack and DC fast-charging capability while the Touring trim uses a smaller 92.0-kWh version and the Pure features a 84.0-kWh battery. The base Pure has an estimated driving range of 420 miles, whereas the mid-range Touring is estimated to travel 406 miles per charge. The Grand Touring model offers up to 512 miles of range. On our 75-mph highway route, the Grand Touring went 410 miles, making it the longest-range EV we’ve ever tested; the Touring we tested went for just 280 miles before needing to be recharged, and the RWD Pure went on for 300 miles before the battery depleted. Plugged into a fast charger, the sedan is said to be able to recoup 300 miles of range in 21 minutes.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe

The most efficient Air is the Pure trim which is rated at 146 MPGe combined; the Touring is rated as high as 133 MPGe combined, and the Grand Touring as high as 129 MPGe combined. The Sapphire is the least efficient with a 105 MPGe combined rating. During our test drive of a Grand Touring model, however, we recorded only 82 MPGe; the Touring did better with a 107-MPGe result, and the Pure gave us 109 MPGe. For more information about the Air’s efficiency, visit the EPA’s website.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Make no mistake, the Air is intended to be a luxury car, and its handsome interior is fitted with rich-looking materials and cutting-edge technology. Lucid is especially proud of the sedan’s expansive passenger space, which is highlighted by a large back seat. The rear seats are comfortable for two adults, but it’s possible to squeeze three back there for short trips. The Air’s glass roof makes it feel even airier and helps outward visibility. The sedan’s front center console looks to provide generous storage space behind the retractable lower touchscreen and inside the large center console bin that houses a set of cupholders as well as slots to place a smartphone. We’re also told its front trunk—or frunk—will have 10 cubic feet of volume.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Air is outfitted with a sophisticated infotainment system that incorporates a large upper touchscreen that flows out of the fully digital gauge cluster and a tablet-like lower touchscreen that handles additional functions and can be retracted into the dashboard. Lucid says the system’s voice-recognition software will respond to natural speech patterns. The interface also has an assistant that learns the user’s preferred music and climate settings. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both come standard. In addition to some physical controls on the steering wheel, there are a set of toggles for temperature and fan speed as well as a roller to adjust the volume of the audio system.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Air is offered with an array of driver-assistance technology, and the company is working on Level 3 self-driving abilities. The latter won’t initially be available, but through the magic of over-the-air updates, it’s expected to be offered sometime in the future. For more information about the Air’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features should include:

  • Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
  • Standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
  • Standard adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Lucid is a startup automaker with no previous products, but its warranty coverage is very similar to Tesla. Tesla doesn’t offer any complimentary maintenance, but new Lucids are covered for up to two years or 24,000 miles.

  • Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers eight years or 100,000 miles
  • Complimentary maintenance is covered for two years or 24,000 miles
