
Beaverdale restaurant reopens while awaiting repairs after car crashes into building
Basic Bird in Beaverdale may still have a car-sized hole in the front of its building after a vehicle crashed into it last week, but the restaurant began welcoming customers again on Tuesday.The restaurant, located at 2607 Beaver Ave. in Des Moines, closed on Jan. 17 when a vehicle crashed into the front wall of the building. Des Moines police told KCCI the driver of the vehicle had a medical condition that caused them to lose control of the vehicle.Basic Bird said in a post on its Facebook page that no one else was hurt in the crash. On Tuesday, the restaurant shared an update announcing that while repairs are pending, the city has determined the building is structurally sound and safe to occupy. Dry wall will need to be repaired and the bar seating will need to be rebuilt. The restaurant said it will have to close for at least two weeks and possibly up to five weeks once the repairs begin. The restaurant said in its post that though the cold temperatures may make it uncomfortable for customers, the dining room is open for dine-in customers, but it does encourage take out and delivery.”We want to thank you for your support through this daunting and lengthy process,” Basic Bird said in its post. “Your overwhelming support has given us legs to stand on as we go through it and confidence that we will return better than ever to serve our incredible community and supporters.”
