Building a sustainable future, Auto News, ET Auto

Automobiles have a significant share in the overall carbon emissions. According to the IEA (International Energy Agency), India’s road transport sector has a 12% share in the country’s energy-related CO2 emissions. It is also projected that the sector’s energy demand and CO2 emissions could double by 2050

Building automobiles more sustainably

As much as automobiles contribute to the environmental pollution when they move on the road, their production process also has a significant carbon footprint, which can be reduced significantly through technological interventions. The following reports tell how various stakeholders in the industry are leveraging new-age tech to enhance their green quotient, and thereby contribute to a sustainable future. .

Cleaner energy round the corner

In less than a month, India will see the implementation of the E20 (20% ethanol blend in petrol) regulation. This will be the first major step towards the goal of making vehicles run on flexfuel (83% ethanol blend). Ethanol will play a key role in India’s evolving energy mix, which also includes Hydrogen, CNG, CBG, and of course Battery Electric Vehicle technology.

The journey to net zero emissions

It’s an easier said than done proposition, but it’s absolutely critical to do whatever it takes to achieve net zero emissions. The tailpipe emission-free technology of BEV can play a major role in this journey. ETAuto, in association with ICCT (International Council of Clean Transportation) recently hosted the fourth edition of its webinar series. Esteemed Speakers in the webinar shared valuable insights, suggestions on how India can progress in its journey towards clean mobility. Details below. (The recorded video of the webinar also embedded in the report.)

Pushing the autonomous car pedal

Unlike the Electric Vehicle (EV) megatrend, the Autonomous Driving (AD) megatrend hasn’t progressed as expected, and also the industry is not betting on its as aggressively as on EVs. However, efforts are on to maturing AD tech. A road legal Maserati has recently made an impressive demonstration of the tech, at the Space Florida Launch and Landing Facility of the Kennedy Space Center. Details in the report below.

Assisted-driving laying the road for Autonomous Driving?

It may be kind of a divided house in the automotive industry when it comes to Autonomous Driving. However, when it comes to ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), almost all of them are going for it. The following articles throw light on a new ADAS testing solution, and how ADAS is ‘revolutionalising’ the automotive industry.
