Greensboro man calls WFMY News 2 after waiting more than six months for car repairs

Dennis Wells expected to wait about two months, but after six months he had enough. While the car was in the shop, Wells was paying for a rental car.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Dennis Wells spends a lot of time in his car for work. One day he was behind the wheel when something that had never happened to him happened. A deer darted out in front of his car and Wells slammed right into it.

“It was damaged, it had a lot of damage, the grill and bumper were messed up,” Wells said.

He spent the next few days calling body shops only to be told there was a backorder on some of the parts, and the shops didn’t want to take the job. Wells kept calling and calling and eventually found a place that said it could do the work.

“We were thinking maybe two months tops because they have to disassemble the car and have to order parts to put it back together,” Wells said.

The car was dropped off and Wells rented a car for work until the work was complete. A few months passed, but the car was still not fixed.

“We called on it regularly because we rented a car every and every Monday, it had to be renewed,” Wells said.

Another month went by and then another and another. At this point, the car had been sitting at the repair shop for more than five months. Making matters worse Wells had spent close to $6,000 on rental fees.

He had been in contact with the repair shop but was getting the same answers. At this point, Wells felt he was getting the runaround and wasn’t confident the car would be fixed anytime soon.

“Then I decided well let me call News 2 to see what’s going on, maybe they can help me,” Wells said.

We contacted the repair shop and spoke with the service manager. He told us he would investigate the issue and get back to us. The next day Wells received a call from the repair shop.

“Ironically the next day the parts came in and they could start working on (the car),” Wells said.

It certainly may have been a coincidence, but Wells is just glad the car was finally being repaired. A week after our call the car was ready to be picked up.

“If it wasn’t for you, they might still be giving me the runaround,” Wells said.
