The Best SUVs Made in the U.S.A.

Buying or leasing a car built in the U.S. supports not only the millions of Americans who work directly for automakers, but also the suppliers who make the parts that go into your vehicle and the communities where the plants are located.

While the auto industry is truly global, many of the world’s best SUVs and crossovers are built in America. The country’s automakers don’t just produce them for the U.S. market – many are destined for export to countries around the globe.

On the following pages, you’ll find the best SUVs built in the U.S. We’ve ranked them by their U.S. News overall scores, with ties going to the model with the lower base price. Note that our scores can change as we get new data, so the scores you see in this story may not match those on each model’s review page.

What Is an American-Made SUV?

For this article, we’ve defined an American-made SUV as one assembled in a U.S. plant. The list includes vehicles from America’s legacy “domestic” automakers, start-up carmakers such as Tesla, and U.S. plants operated by foreign-nameplate auto brands, such as Honda.

Some of the vehicles on this list are built in multiple factories, including plants outside the U.S. If getting a U.S.-made model is important to you, check the vehicle’s Monroney sticker (aka the “window sticker”), its doorsill-mounted build plate or its vehicle identification number (VIN) to ensure it was built in America.
